'Forbes' whitewashes the government's plan and ironizes the last project of our country: Albania will supply 4 million Italians, but still its citizens do not have 24 hours of water

Written by SOT.COM.AL 1 Dhjetor 2022

The fact that Albania can send water all the way to Italy, while it has not yet provided its citizens with a 24-hour supply, surprised even "Forbes", the well-known magazine. Journalist Joseph Hammond writes that the underwater pipeline will send water from Gjirokastra to the Puglia region in Italy.
This project, financed by the Italian state, will cost about 1 billion euros and will extend over a length of 85 kilometers in water and 120 kilometers on land. The water pipeline will serve about 4 million people located in the region near Albania.
If this proposal is approved, which would be a big surprise, within four years, Albania will be ready to transport 150 million cubic meters of water to Puglia. What does Albania gain in the meantime? It is said that only 8 thousand jobs for the construction of the pipeline.
But the question raised by journalist Joseph Hammond is one that we all raise. Meanwhile , in Tirana, large areas of the city do not enjoy running water all the time. So the Albanian government has not yet commented on the agreement", he writes.
In the spring of 2023, there are elections, and it is unlikely that the government will raise this topic on the water supply, at least for the moment. According to Forbes, such an underwater pipeline exists elsewhere in the Mediterranean, supplying Northern Cyprus with water from Turkey. The unique project was completed in 2024.
