The prisons are opened, the ministry prepares the amnesty for the convicts

When a full 3 years have passed since the last amnesty was granted to a category of persons serving prison terms for various criminal offences, the Albanian government is planning to apply another amnesty to Albanian prisons.

The draft law in question was drawn up in the Ministry of Justice and submitted to the Assembly, where it is expected to be examined in the parliamentary committees.

This legal move comes at a time when the number of people in prisons has increased significantly and logistical capacities, including financial costs, have increased significantly.

Journalist Elton Qyno has secured the draft of the Ministry of Justice, which has planned to include in the sentence amnesty scheme a different category of sentences from the three levels of the judiciary.

According to the ministry, convicts benefit from this amnesty until October 31, 2022. Apparently, the government wants to surprise over 5,500 people serving sentences in Albanian prisons for the November and December holidays.

Although a good part of them do not fulfill the criteria to benefit from this amendment that is intended to be approved in the Assembly of Albania.

This is because the government has determined in two special articles and special conditions which of the convicts will be able to benefit from the amnesty. The latest amnesty bill is expected to release more than 1,000 convicts in Albanian prisons.
