The fetal medicine unit is established in the "Queen Geraldine" maternity hospital

The number of births at the national level has fallen by almost 17%, but the opposite has happened in Tirana due to its overpopulation.

This is confirmed by the director of the "Queen Geraldine" Maternity, Eliona Demaliaj, who explained that one of the factors in the decrease in fertility is the increase in infertility.

"In our maternity hospital, the number of births has not decreased. It is noted at the national level that there may be a decrease in the number of births and it is true that there are problems related to infertility, that is, ladies who are at a younger age than before who come with the concern that they are not achieving easily a pregnancy. The problems are different, unrelated to the health system. It's obesity, sedentary life, it's the high age of the first pregnancy", says Eliona Demaliaj.

But after how long should a couple who fails to have a pregnancy worry?

"The first is that concern does not turn into panic. Second, after a year of trying to get pregnant and not achieving it, they should go to a specialist doctor for consultations and examinations. My call is that all those couples who have problems with infertility, leave out the stigma or the shame and go to the doctor to be treated", says the director of the "Queen Geraldine" Maternity.

The fetal medicine unit has been created in this maternity hospital, which means high-quality ultrasound during pregnancy.

"It is very good news. which comes for the creation of the quality of fetal medicine in the "Queen Geraldine" maternity hospital, which will provide more training and more skills for doctors, more modern and high-tech equipment, not only for our hospital but also for other obstetrician-gynecologists in Albania, so that complications can be caught or a prenatal diagnosis can be made before birth, for all the pathologies that a pregnancy can have", said director Eliona Demaliaj.
