The December 6 summit in Tirana, the decision of the EU is revealed

The December 6 summit in Tirana, the decision of the EU is revealed

The leaders of the European Union are expected to pledge support and acceleration of the EU enlargement process, in the meeting they will hold in Tirana, on December 6, with representatives of the Western Balkan countries.

They are also expected to ask the countries of the region to prove their commitment to common values.

These orders will be part of the so-called "Declaration of Tirana", the draft of which has been provided by Radio Free Europe.

The summit in Tirana will be the first between the EU and the Western Balkans to take place on the territory of a non-EU country in the region.

It comes at a time when Russia's war in Ukraine has brought major changes in the international order. Its consequences are expected to be discussed at the Tirana summit.

"Russia's aggression against Ukraine, which is escalating and endangering European and global peace and security, emphasizes the importance of the strategic partnership between the EU and the Western Balkans region", says the text of the draft declaration of Tirana.

"The European Union reaffirms its full and undoubted commitment to the perspective of the membership of the Western Balkan countries in the European Union and invites the acceleration of the enlargement process, based on credible reforms on the part of the partners", the text also states.

The commitment of the countries of the region to respect, as they say, international law and the fundamental values ??of the EU is also welcomed there.

"Standing by the EU is a clear strategic signal of partners, at a time when Russia is escalating its aggressive war in Ukraine. The common vision of the future also means common responsibilities and common values", says the draft declaration. REL
