Tensions in the north of Kosovo / Albin Kurti's strong statement: We risk war with Serbia
Written by SOT.COM.AL 8 Gusht 2022
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has commented on the tensions in the north of Kosovo, where he stated during an interview for the Italian newspaper "Republika" that the risk of a war with Serbia is present.
"We risk war. Behind Serbia is Putin. I would not say that the risk is very high, because we also have a NATO contingent here, but it is certainly high. We are a democracy that has an autocracy at the borders".
Regarding the government's recent measures regarding license plates and reciprocity for documents with Serbia, Kurti emphasized that the Serbs have set up 48 bases around Kosovo and that the protests in the north were organized by Belgrade, with the support of Russia.
"The protests were not spontaneous, they were organized by Belgrade with the support of Russia. Since August 2001, Serbia has established 48 forward operating bases, 28 military and 20 gendarmerie. Serbian Veterans have all become pro-Russia. As if to say: the danger exists and we warn about it".
Regarding the meeting with Serbian President Aleksandër Vucic on August 18 in Brussels, Kurti says that it will be held for the general aspects of Kosovo-Serbia relations and that he hopes it will help to reduce the tension.
