After many months of decline, accidents in February this year have marked a negative turn, increasing compared to the same month a year ago.
Official data shows that in February 2023 there were 88 road accidents out of 77 that occurred in February 2022. The number of road accidents has increased by 14.3%.
According to the Institute of Statistics, the number of accident victims (killed and injured) is 123 people out of 100 in February 2022.
Another element that stands out is the increase in the carelessness of drivers in the age group of 35-44 years old, who compared to the previous year have increased by 11.1 percent as the cause of accidents due to their behavior at the wheel.
"Road accidents, in 81.8% of cases, occurred as a result of the driver's behavior. The highest number of accidents in this period was committed by the 35-44 age group, accounting for 22.7% of the total number of accidents. Accidents in this age group have increased by 11.1%, compared to the same period a year ago", the publication states.
In the month of February 2023, the highest number of road accidents occurred on Mondays and Thursdays, while the lowest number of accidents occurred on Wednesdays.
The highest number of accidents occurred during the time frame 19:00-24:00, constituting 29.5% of the total number of accidents in the month of February 2023
INSTAT reported that in the first two months of 2023, there were 172 road accidents out of 184 accidents that occurred in the same period of the previous year.
The number of road accidents decreased by 6.5%. The number of accident victims is 242 people out of 247 accident victims in the first two months of 2022.
Road accidents, in 19.2% of cases, in the first two months of 2023, occurred as a result of pedestrian behavior. The number of accidents according to pedestrian behavior has increased by 13.8%./Monitor
