The murder of the pregnant woman near the maternity ward shocked public opinion, the lawyer tells the decision: This will happen for the first time

After the serious event that shocked not only Kosovo but also beyond, where a pregnant woman was killed yesterday evening near the maternity hospital in Pristina, there have been endless reactions.

Besnik Berisha, a lawyer from Kosovo, also reacted to this case. On his Facebook account, Berisha said that this day will mark the first sentence in Kosovo with life imprisonment.

According to Berisha, this sentence may not be executed only if the doras gives the judgment to himself without being sentenced by the court.

"What happened tonight in the courtyard of SHSKUK, where in still unknown circumstances the ex-husband took the life of the pregnant woman and still disappeared without a trace, will mark the first sentence in Kosovo with life imprisonment (confirmed in each instance). This sentence may not be executed only if the doras gives the judgment to himself without being sentenced by the court. That's what I think," wrote Berisha.

Cases of domestic violence in Kosovo have increased in recent years.

According to the data of the Kosovo Police, during 2020, 2,069 cases of domestic violence were recorded in Kosovo; in 2021, 2,456 cases were recorded.

Meanwhile, during the period January-September 2022, 2,067 cases of domestic violence were registered.
