The chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Robert Menendez, spoke about the tensions between Greece and Turkey.
In an event organized with immigrants in New Jersey, US Senator Menendez said that no aggression against Greece is to be accepted.
"My message is solidarity with Greeks and Cypriots. Appreciation for their amazing contribution to our country and what incredible allies they are with the US, through NATO and the EU. They have our support and our relationship will deepen. I think we are at the highest point of relations between Greece and the US", he said adding: "Turkey, under Erdogan, has an economy that is clearly collapsing. Turkish citizens are suffering because of Erdogan and his economic policies. As he approaches next year's elections, it is a dangerous time and he is trying to create an episode in order to distract Turkish citizens from their very bad economic situation. But we must make it clear, and I believe we have, that any aggression will have consequences and will not be accepted."
