Presenter Lenin Artieda was injured when he opened the envelope in the middle of the newsroom. He said the device that exploded in his hands looked like a USB drive, he inserted it into his computer and it exploded.
Ecuador's Attorney General's Department confirmed that it had opened an investigation into the case. Interior Minister Juan Zapata said the equipment had been sent to 5 other institutions, as well as from the town of Quimsaloma in Los Rios. Three were sent to the media in Guayaquil and two to the capital, Quito.
