Fears of another environmental disaster were raised in Ukraine after the world's largest ammonia pipeline located in Kharkiv was bombed by Russia.
Pro-Moscow sources released footage showing a gas cloud spreading over a forested area near the town of Masyutivka, which lies in the "gray zone" between the Russian and Ukrainian borders and houses a pumping station for the Tolyatti-Odessa pipeline.
Ammonia is a key component of nitrate fertilizers, while Russia is one of its main producers worldwide. But it is also extremely toxic and can cause severe irritation to the lungs, throat, nose and eyes, causing serious health problems for people who may be exposed to it.
