Elections in Turkey/Erdogan towards a sure victory, preliminary polls are published

Elections in Turkey/Erdogan towards a sure victory, preliminary polls are

Recep Tayyip Erdogan appears to be speeding towards another electoral victory after a new polling company predicted the outcome of the first round of Turkey's presidential election, showing him ahead by a margin of 7.88% from his rival Kemal Kilindaroglu.

Özdemir Research announced the results of its survey for the second round of the presidential election conducted on a sample of 3,250 respondents in 81 provinces. In fact, Özdemir Research, which made one of the successful predictions of the first round of parliamentary and presidential polls, taking into account the margin of error, shows that Erdogan leads the race for the presidency with a margin of 7.88 points.

In the question "for which candidate do you intend to vote in the second round of the presidential elections to be held on Sunday, May 28, 2023?", the result after the distribution of votes gives Recep Tayyip Erdogan 53.94% and Kemal Kilicdaroglu 46.06 %, marking a difference of 7.88%.

In the first round of elections held on May 14, Recep Tayyip Erdogan received 49.52% of the votes, Kemal ?l?çdaroglu 44.88%, Sinan Ogan 5.17% and Muharrem Ince 0.43%. Özdemir Research in the last election poll published for the first round on May 14, put out the People's Alliance candidate Rexhep Tayip Erdogan with 48.4%, the National Alliance candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu 45.2% and the ATA Alliance candidate Sinan Ogan with 6.4%.

Erdogan is the favorite before the second round, Kilicdaroglu is hoping for an upset

Turkey's president is trying to extend his 20 years in power by another five after his rival wooed nationalist votes by promising to deport millions of Syrian refugees if he... ousts Erdogan, who has accused him of hate speech - and said that a victory for the opposition leader would be a victory for the "terrorists".

Kemal Kilicdaroglu, backed by a broad opposition, has cast the election as a referendum on Turkey's future direction and sought the support of nationalist voters to boost his chances of victory. Erdogan's opponent wants to abolish the presidential system introduced five years ago and return power to parliament and the prime minister. Independent courts and a free press will follow these moves.

The role of president will be an honorary one, and the five other parties in Kilicdaroglu's alliance will each have a vice president along with the two center-left mayors of Ankara and Istanbul. But Erdogan's party and its nationalist and conservative allies have secured a majority in parliament, and if the opposition alliance were to win the presidency, they could find it difficult to push through their reforms.

On Sunday, polling stations open at 08:00 local time and close at 17:00. The second round of elections is taking place three months after earthquakes in southeastern Turkey killed more than 50,000 people.
