The euro "sinks" lending as well, the new loan falls in April for business and individuals

Lending has slowed down significantly during the month of April this year, signal the latest figures from the Bank of Albania regarding the lending of the banking sector. The new loan has decreased during the month of April for business and for individuals. During April, a total of 22.7 billion new loans were granted, in all currencies, from 27.9 billion in March, a decrease of 18.6%. Even compared to the same period a year ago, the new loan results in a decrease, by 3.4%. In April 2022, banks gave 23.5 billion new loans. In fact, the analyzed figures show that the level of lending in April of this year is even lower than in April of 2017 and 2018. What stands out from the figures is the fact that lending is registered in decline for both main segments, business and individuals. As for the new credit for business, during the month of April it was recorded at 13.9 billion ALL, from 15.6 billion ALL in March and 15.9 billion ALL during April last year. In annual terms, the decline is fixed at 13.6%, the figures indicate. As for the new loan for individuals, during April the banks gave 6.3 billion ALL, from 8.8 billion ALL in March of this year, or 7.3 billion in April last year. In annual terms, the decline is fixed at 13.7%. The contraction of lending during the past month seems to be at the same rate for both business and individuals, the figures signal. However, the situation regarding the new loan according to the currency looks different. The new loan in Lek is fixed at 13.4 billion Lek, increasing both in monthly terms and in annual terms. In March of this year, the new loan in Lek was fixed at 11.5 billion Lek, while in April 2022 it was close to 10.7 billion Lek. It seems that the blow to lending was given by the euro. The new loan in euros has decreased to only 8.6 billion ALL in April, from 16.4 billion ALL in March, or 11.9 billion in April last year.
