The audition for the famous work "Opera per tre grosh" by Bertolt Brecht, under the direction of the well-known Japanese director, Kuniaki Ida, was held at the Migjeni Theatre, Shkodër.

Actors from Shkodra, Tirana and Kosovo, including many talents from the youth festival, participated in this intensive audition, which took place in the form of a Workshop, testing the actors in physical, vocal and improvisational aspects, to be evaluated according to the director's requirements.

In this well-known work of Brecht, the music written for this play by the American composer of German origin, Kurt Julian Weill, is of particular importance in addition to the text of the play.

Brecht's collaboration with the composer Weill has greatly influenced the transmission of the message of this play to the audience all over the world.

Kurt Julian Weill (1900 - 1950) was a German-American composer active from the 1920s in his native country and in his later years in the United States.

He was a leading composer for the stage who was best known for his fruitful collaborations with Bertolt Brecht.

With Brecht, he developed such productions as his best-known work, 'Opera per tre groše', which included the ballad "Mack the Knife".

Weill held the ideal of writing music that served a 'beneficial social purpose', 'Gebrauchsmusik'.

He also wrote several works for concert halls and a number of works on Jewish themes. He became a United States citizen in 1943.

In 1922 Weill joined the Novembergruppe, a group of left-wing Berlin artists that included Hanns Eisler and Stefan Wolpe.

In February 1924, the conductor Fritz Busch introduced him to the playwright Georg Kaiser, with whom Weill would have a long creative partnership that would result in several one-act operas. At the Kaiser's house in Grünheide, Weill first met the singer and actress Lotte Lenya in the summer of 1924, whom he married.

She took great care to support Weill's work and after his death took it upon herself to raise awareness of his music, forming the 'Kurt Weill Foundation'.

From November 1924 to May 1929, Weill wrote hundreds of reviews, critiques for the influential and comprehensive radio program guide 'Der deutsche Rundfunk'. Hans Siebert von Heister had already worked with Weill on the 'November Group' and offered Weill the job soon after he became editor-in-chief.

Although he had some success with his early non-stage works (such as String Quartet, Op. 8, and Concerto for Violin and Wind Orchestra, Op. 12), which were influenced by Gustav Mahler, Arnold Schoenberg, and Igor Stravinsky , Weill leaned more and more towards vocal music and musical theatre.
