Works on the wooden bridge in the fortress of Lezha

In the fortress of Lezha, work is being done to replace the elements of the planks in the wooden bridge. This is reported by the Shkodër Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage, which states that this process is important, as it has to do with improving the infrastructure at our archaeological sites. "The DRTK Shkodër maintenance team has started work on the replacement of plank elements on the wooden bridge in the Lezha fortress. The work consists of identifying the structural elements of the wooden bridge that are damaged or old and need replacement. This important process has to do with the improvement of the infrastructure of access to our visitable sites, and the installation of the necessary signage, starting from the archaeological park of Lezhë to be ready for the next tourist season in 2024". says the Shkodër Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage, which has also shared some photos during the work process on its website. Lezha Castle rises on top of a hill with a height of 186 meters, to the east of the city. The castle is of Illyrian origin. In 1440, it underwent a reconstruction by the Venetians, while in 1522, after the Ottoman invasion, it was also rebuilt by them. Traces of Illyrian, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman architecture can be seen here. The most interesting objects to visit are the ruins of the Ottoman buildings inside the fortress, the mosque, the tower on the southeast wall with a Roman arch and the Illyrian tower on the south wall. Lezha Castle is a cultural monument. From it you can see a very beautiful view of the plain of Lezha and the Adriatic Sea.
