The show "Beautiful minds, free spirits", dedicated to three scientists, Mari Kyri, Sabiha Kasimati and Rozalinda Franklin

Written by Julia Vrapi 28 Janar 2023

Three fragments of life and work, in different times and places were merged into a single scene. The show "Beautiful minds, free spirits" dedicated to three scientists, Mari Kyri, Sabiha Kasimati and Rozalinda Franklin, was welcomed by the audience in the Black Box hall of the University of Arts in Tirana. The young people of "AZ Çajupi" and "Qemal Stafa" high schools presented an Albanian drama with a beautiful artistic game. Scientists are united by love, passion, dedication to science, their efforts for gender equality and love for life, against a reality opposed to the figure of women in science throughout the centuries. Ina Kasimati, well-known environmental activist, biology-chemistry teacher at the "AZÇajupi" high school, as well as the creator and author of the project, says that "Beautiful minds, free spirits" is dedicated to three scientists, as inspiration for young Albanians. "This work is dedicated to Sabiha Kasimati, Mari Kyri, Rozalinda Franklin as an inspiration for young people who love and study sciences, scientific research, but also to reflect as a society on the human values ??that we inherit from the outstanding figures of history, the true heroines , with dignity in their life and death. They have taught over death the mentality of masculinist societies or dictatorial power like the martyr Sabiha Kasimati, becoming a light for us and for future generations", says Ina Kasimati. The author of the drama, Rovena Rrozhani, says after the performance that it is not easy to unite three figures like these, moreover, to try to bring them together in a short time. "It's more than a century of effort and hard work by women in science. It is a tribute to the beautiful minds and free spirits who have left their mark on the history of science, often remaining unsung heroines. Moreover, it is a show by young people for young people, inspired by a beautiful figure of a teacher and activist like Ina", says Rozhani.
Working with the show
For the director Suela Bako, this show was a challenge, to which, as she says, she would return with pleasure. "Working with young people is good for health; being part of a mission is good for the soul, being lucky enough to bring back to life women scientists like Sabiha Kasimati, Rozalinda Franklin, Mari Kyri, is good for the mind. It was a challenge that I would gladly return to", says Bako. In the role in the show "Beautiful minds, free spirits", the students of two high schools in Tirana performed, Anxhela Bregasi, Ana Kotelli, Kaltrin Zalla, Erda Bekaj, Renis Hamzaj and Enes Ajazi who managed to carry the weight of historical figures , receiving a standing ovation at the conclusion of their performance. The theatrical performance that appeared on January 26 is part of the activities of the project of the ecological club Kristal "AZ Çajupi" - green school supported by TEYC 2022, Tirana Municipality - National Youth Congress and ZVAT. She concluded a series of activities in which ecological clubs from many schools of the country took part under the direction of coordinators Aida Bedaj and Eglantina Shamo Teta.
