CAREFUL! Doctors raise the alarm: You can get these serious diseases from dampness at home

Written by SOT.COM.AL 30 Nëntor 2022

Small amounts of mold are everywhere, in the air or on various surfaces.
Leaky sinks, poorly insulated windows, the kitchen, basement and shower are some of the most common places for mold to grow.
Harmful types of mold can cause allergies, poisoning or pathogenic infections.
How does mold affect your body?
The most common symptoms associated with mold are allergies and asthma. Symptoms of mold exposure depend on the person, the length of exposure, and the types of mold.
They also vary from person to person because individual genetics play a role in how your body reacts when you are exposed to it. But it remains difficult to attribute any symptom to the presence of dampness and mold alone.
This is because exposure to mold can be accompanied by exposure to germs or bacteria, which can cause problems in their own right, or can make existing illnesses worse. This is why getting a diagnosis can be challenging.
However, various studies have found possible links between the following symptoms and mold exposure.
Breathing and lung problems
Coughing, runny nose, fever, or shortness of breath are commonly associated with mold exposure of all types.
Constant exposure to mold in the living or working environment can weaken your memory and worsen diseases such as Alzheimer's. However, studies have not yet come to certain conclusions.
Chronic fatigue syndrome has a strong connection between the presence of bacteria or germs and exposure to mold. A 2013 study found that 93% of those with chronic fatigue tested positive for their presence in the body.
Problems with the digestive system
Vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain are symptoms of digestive problems, which are also related to exposure to environments with the presence of mold.
The longer you live or work in an environment where mold is present, the more serious your symptoms may become. If you have mold in your home, you should take appropriate precautions and understand that continued exposure to it can cause health problems or worsen existing ones.
