June 23, Day of Albanian Deportees and Displaced from Medvedja, Bujanovac and Presevo

In commemoration of the 23rd anniversary, when from some localities of the three Municipalities, the Albanian inhabitants were expelled and left their lands due to pressure, violence, where the peak of the displaced was exactly on this date. Some Albanian settlements in the border area were completely emptied, due to numerous pressures by Serbian forces to leave their lands. The autochthonous population was forcibly removed from this space, in the most painful forms. Separately, some localities or border areas of the municipalities of Bujanovac and Medvedja were almost completely emptied. Only from June 1999 to December 31, 2002, 11,783 Albanian inhabitants were displaced from the three Municipalities, some of them returned to their homes, but there are no exact records of how many returned and how many remained. Wednesday 23 June 1999, for the Albanian inhabitants of the three Municipalities suffered and were left desolate without their own inhabitants because in these parts began to arrive large forces of the army, police and gendarmerie that were withdrawing from Kosovo. To date, nothing has been done even after 23 years, for these families, to create conditions for return. To date, none of the central institutional leaders of the Republic of Serbia has visited them and let them approach any serious project or program for return or integration where they are. The topic for the category of deportees, displaced and displaced people should not be anathema and as if they are nobody's citizens.
