Intellectuals, the people's happiness and their misfortune!

Intellectuals, the people's happiness and their misfortune!

Without question, in all the transformations of human society, intellectuals have a special role and merit, because with their knowledge they lead the masses towards progress. But on the other hand, it must be admitted that many of them become obstacles to these revolutionary transformations. The LANÇ of the Albanian people was carried out by the broad mass of patriotic workers and peasants, led by the Communist Party and Enver Hoxha, but the role of the real intellectuals of the people in leading this war was very important. Just as the attitude of some others, who put themselves in the service of the conqueror, was extremely harmful. The same scheme was also after the liberation of the country. The vast majority of the real popular intelligentsia were put to the service of building Socialism, but there were also those who opposed the revolutionary and transformative thrust of the masses. The role of the intelligentsia is even more evident today, where unfortunately, a part of it has been put at the service of the bourgeoisie and against the interests of the people, causing the latter incalculable damage and misery. It is exactly these arguments, which I briefly passed on the dual position of the intelligentsia, which made me write already in the title that "Intellectuals are the people's good fortune and their misfortune". The clue for this reply in the press was given to me by the well-known journalist Bedri Islami's article, entitled "The writer facing the dictator", published in the Dita newspaper on June 15, 2024. The article in question was a review of the book "When rulers quarrel" by writer Ismail Kadare, an article which was published on three pages of the newspaper. As an amateur journalist, I miss this possibility of publication in three or four pages, so I will reply with two or three more obvious points, for which I have disputes and objections. The subject of the book "When rulers quarrel" by Ismail Kadare, which Bedri Islami analyzes, is the story of two dissident writers of the Soviet Power in the 1934s of the last century, which was led by Joseph Stalin; Mandelshtam and Pasternak, two Russian poets and writers, who were initially enthusiastic about the victory of the Socialist Revolution of October 1917, but later "disappointed" by the brutal behavior of the "Dictator" Stalin. It was precisely the latter, that these poets would turn the pen of their creativity into a bullet against the "dictator", whom Mandelshtam calls among his friends, but even further, "the Kremlin's bully"! What leader of the beginning of the twentieth century would accept such an accusation, of an individual, even a famous poet, when this "Kremlin Malok" was the comrade-in-arms of Lenin, the genius of the revolution of October 1917, a revolution that changed the course of the world?! The two dissident Russian poet-writers, Mandelshtam and Pasternak, whose story Ismail Kadare puts at the center of his book, experienced the time of the revolution in question, and the aggression of more than 16 capitalist states, who, in alliance with each other, were launched on the new Soviet Republic, to suffocate it from the cradle. Our writer Ismail Kadare knows that period of years after the socialist revolution very well, because he had at his disposal whole volumes of authentic documents about those events. Based on this, the legitimate question arises: Why does our writer, who is over eighty years old, enter this past history, which happened ninety years ago?! The answer for us Albanians is clear. Kadare has always been a double writer in his convictions about life, about literature, about the people and about his country. This "duality" with which he lives even today after 35 years of political conversion, he has not been able to center in harmony with himself, with history, and most importantly with the country of his people. For more than half of his age, our writer was at the service of the superstructure of the socialist system, which he served with devotion. The literary works that he created in socialism, he has not managed to exceed in any way those "produced" in the nest of the European bourgeoisie, where he started his political exile in 1990. And this happened because the "mud" of the field of his creativity is not native mud, but borrowed from other countries. Ismail Kadare, using the history of the above Russian dissidents, tells us contemporaries, and more so the generation that will follow us, that he too was a "dissident" of Albanian Socialism and of the "dictator" Enver Hoxha, but for lack of courage , failed to openly manifest his dissent. Because he failed to be an open "dissident", now in his old age, he weaves legends for others, in the hope that the reader will create the conviction that Kadare, in essence, was a real dissident in his "double" literary works. in meaning and message. To refute this claim, I will bring an episode from his literary works, published here half a century ago at the time when Albania was successfully building socialism. It is about the historical novel "The Great Winter", whose character is precisely the great leader of the Albanian people, Enver Hoxha, that Kadare is trying to tarnish today with the epithet "Dktator", as his old colleagues from Russia did, for Stalin. The episode in the novel "The Great Winter" talks about a moment when Enver Hoxha, after his famous speech in the Gjeorgjevskaja Hall in Moscow, and after heated meetings with Khrushchev's envoys in the place where the Albanian delegation was accommodated, goes down to the lobby of the building and entered into a conversation with the employees accompanying the delegation. During the conversation with the employee in question, Enver Hoxha asked the service for a coffee, which he drank until the end, and placed the empty cup of coffee on the small table in front of him. About this moment, Kadare writes in the novel roughly like this: "All the old women of Albania, if they had the opportunity, would rush to see Enver Hoxha's cup". This phrase, though in the form of a superstition, raises the figure of Enver Hoxha very high, higher than any other praise in prose or poetry. Who forced Kadare to write this phrase? No one but his mental and spiritual conviction. Yes, why did this belief change after '90? Because he was put at the service of those who left no stone unturned for the overthrow of Socialism in our country. And the servant must carry out the assigned "mission". In these murky waters of imagined "dissidence", which our writer falls, unfortunately also falls the author of the article who comments on his book about "Rulers who quarrel". As for the writer Ismail, and the journalist Islami, although they have lived and worked devoutly for socialism for about four decades, the three decades of the so-called "bourgeois democracy" have changed the direction of their concept of freedom of artistic creation. Poets and writers, according to them, should have complete freedom of creation and without defined commitments. However, the philosophy of Kadare and Islam regarding the role of literature and art in society is not only wrong, but extremely reactionary. No social system, even in communism, can beat this unengaged literary-artistic creativity, which is not put at the service of society and its progress. The well-known journalist Bedri Islami names his article "Writer facing the dictatorship", which in the case of our writer Kadare, is a false name. Kadare has not been a dekik in front of the "dictatorship", but in the superstructure of the Socialist state, respected, helped and encouraged by the Communist Party and its leader Enver Hoxha. Kadare, thanks to his creative skills, in socialism has been, as the people say, "like a kidney in the middle of fat", a position he failed to win in the "fat" of capitalism. That's why "twenty" will accompany him until the end of his life. Unfortunately, even the journalist Bedri Islami, for no basic reason, sided with the great writer, slipping into the same murky waters. Inspired by the mythless "legends" of Kadare, Bedriu goes even further. In the long list of dissidents of the "Dictatorship" from the field of art letters, he does not fail to include characters that his colleagues from the DITA newspaper have considered "deservedly convicted persons". But what surprises us and insults us more today, is the lack of commitment of the intelligence army to protect the interests of the country and the people, who in the nineties of the last century, were about to enjoy the "paradise of democracy". but it actually ended up in the "hell of scraps". A good part of our intellectuals, including the great intellectual and writer, Ismail Kadare, instead of coming out on the side of the people and the country, became a mass of foreigners for "ten aspra" stinking, and some "title" of fake. The people love and respect intellectuals, because they are the people of knowledge. But the latter do not all return to the citizens whose taxes they have disclosed.Even a significant part completely deny the people and their country, so I repeat once again the sarcastic phrase: "Intellectuals are the people's happiness and their misfortune"!
