For the democracy we want, we must all contribute!
Written by Saba Lama 1 Dhjetor 2023
Democracy does not represent the ideal system or the most perfect system, but the best system that human society has known so far, compared to other known systems, in terms of granting the needs, interests and rights of peoples in the place where they are located and live. Or otherwise we can say that the system of democracy has been evaluated by human society as the best, compared to other systems it has known during the journey of history, for creating opportunities for development and well-being. Today in the world we have many countries (already known) that experience democratic regimes, but not in all countries the democratic developments are at the same level. Of course, such a fact has its own reasons, among which we can single out:
a)- The historical circumstances of this or that country at the time of the triumph of democracy. And these circumstances can be political, economic, cultural, social, or any other circumstance that is specific to the life of this or that country at the moment of the transition to democracy.
b)-The model and quality of the governments that led and directed the democratic transformations, through the reforms undertaken in the country in question.
c)-The nature of the challenges faced by this or that country in the process of democratic reforms.
ç)- The level and culture of the people of this or that country, to respond to the fulfillment of the democratic reforms experienced. Often, the peoples of different countries, when facing problems related to the violation of their rights and the improvement of life in democracy, seek the solution from the governments and state leaders who represent them. Of course, the way of solving this problem is important, since governments in every country bear the main weight of responsibility for meeting the conditions and the smooth running of democracy in the country where democracy works, but this way should not be understood as the determinant and the only solution for solving the problems faced by the democracy of this or that country. And this should be understood that alongside the governments, the people of this or that country must also contribute, to curb and avoid the problems that become a barrier to the progress of democracy and that stimulate the deterioration of democratic life in their country (first in this or in that aspect) and of course this contribution is given by giving positive examples and models through the behavior, activity and culture of the people in question. Related to this contribution, we must understand: the behavior of every citizen in daily life by giving a positive model, first of all by asking for this model from himself (because it is known that change starts first from himself) and then by extended the model in question to others. If we want to fight and prevent criminal phenomena of various variants or immoral ones, as well as any other manifestation that contradicts the norms and interests of social life in democracy, we should also participate (the broad mass of the people), for to fight them in the embryo and not to let them fester and take care of them in the moments when we face them, because the evil that happens belongs to all of us in the continuity of life. I want to underline that the delayed time or the lack of vigilance, gives time and opportunity to the negative element related to the problem it carries, to create the unforeseen situation in the place where it is located and operates the next day. Of course, this assessment and commitment of ours for the prevention of the negative phenomena that occur, affects even better to help and facilitate the state in the fight against the phenomenon in question, despite the fact that it belongs to it (the state) as a primary duty. Speaking about everyone's contribution to the progress of democracy and the fight against criminal phenomena in our country, I want to underline that the criminal, immoral and thieving element does not fall from the sky but is among us, lives in the social environment, acting with it all the forms and means for achieving the goal and mission that it has and precisely starting from this fact, we must always be alert, to seize the moment at the right time. Another option for everyone to contribute to the smooth running of democracy, it is setting a positive example in the place where we work, for the proper fulfillment of the duties, criteria and requirements dictated by the legislation and regulations in the institution where we work, according to the position and the place we have been entrusted with. It is not at all right for us when, with our attitudes, we join moments and situations that do not speak well and that disrupt the climate and the progress of democracy in the country. It is not good at all when we join the scenarios that talk about stupidity and ignorance, which lead to the creation of unforeseen tensions in the country. We, as citizens, regarding our rights in democracy, have also made protests, but the protests made more have been of a sporadic nature and not well planned and organized to bring the appropriate productivity for the causes that have preoccupied us, so they have ended with failures, without mentioning here that one of the main reasons for the failure of the protests in this prolonged transition, has been and continues to be the corruption of our unions (which have directed and led the protests) by the state, and here we are talking about the leaders of unions and the compromises made by them with representatives and high officials of our state. But let's not forget that in the framework of organized protests, we also have cases where the protesters have gone after certain political elements and segments that have represented the Albanian opposition, who seek instability, in order to use the protesters as "balloon fodder", for their selfish interests and goals, where in the foreground was the political reason (the overthrow of the opponent of the moment and their taking power). Based on life in the Albanian democracy of the moment, looking at the totality of the dynamics that have taken place, it turns out that we really need to follow and respect the good models and experiences of democracies in already known countries, and here it is not only from the governors and leaders of our state in democracy, but also ourselves as a people for the culture and the low level that we reflect with our behaviors in democratic processes, so we are here where we started from the level of development of the country, compared to many other countries with democratic regimes. Regarding the progress of democracies in different countries of the world, practice has shown that the key factors that risk and threaten democracies are: respect for human rights and corruption in the administration, phenomena which have already been and continue to be present in the lives of our country in transition, even on a galloping scale as it happens with corruption in the administration and with representatives and senior officials of the Albanian state involved in corruption, where the names of some of them have already become known to us, but we are waiting for the authorities competent, to learn even more in this direction in the future. In closing, I want to underline once again that for democracy and its success, alongside the state, all of us as a people must contribute,
