Former minister Lefter Koka, former deputy Alqi Blako and other senior officials fell into the net of justice this year, after investigations by the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.
In a debate in the "Top Story" studio about these sensational events of 2022, journalist Fatjona Mejdini says that many politicians are already afraid of justice:
"Justice plays with symbolism. If we look at it, even the arrests that have been made in our country, usually the charges that have led them behind bars, have been symbolic things. They were small things from what is thought.
It is very important because justice speaks a lot with symbolism. And what does that mean? If you arrest a former minister and put him behind bars, I think that speaks volumes for all those ministers who must think that at some point they must have the same fate. We are talking about a powerful political man, as Lefter Koka was.
Today we have Alqi Bllakon behind bars. What do we say to those subordinates there, what signal do we give them. We tell you to be careful with what you sign because the moment will come when you will be held responsible for corruption that you may not have committed.
I think everyone should be afraid of justice. I would be surprised if there was any politician who was not scared".
The journalist mentions some of the issues that are under investigation and may "burn" other officials:
"There are many issues actually. Incinerators is an open issue, which can always attract high figures of the majority that we have in power.
We have accusations against the former president and the head of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, for corruption. If they manage to prove themselves, it is fatal for him. We have accusations against family members of Mr. Sali Berisha.
We have the 'Partizani' case which is currently being investigated by SPAK. It will be significant for justice and justice reform".
