Arrests in the ranks of the SP, former president Bamir Topi: Edi Rama must bear political responsibility for his loyalists
Written by SOT.COM.AL 23 Mars 2023
The former president, Bamir Topi, speaking about the recent arrests in SP circles, said that Rama should have taken political responsibility for the handcuffing of his socialist collaborators. Yesterday in a television interview, the former president also said that the result of these arrests should be seen to the end, in order to reach further conclusions. "The Prime Minister in such cases must bear political responsibility. The fact that so many people close to the prime minister go to SPAK is a big question mark. If this result will be temporary in function of the elections, there is another reading. We will wait and see. Not all things can be predicted and prejudged," he declared. Furthermore, former president Bamir Topi has called the situation within the DP a story of shame, as he added that this story of fights between the two parties resembles an anecdote. The former president also said that he sees both groups within the Democratic Party as hopeless cases to make a strong opposition. "It's like an anecdote. An embarrassing story that comes to an end. To say that they have hope, they have no hope. There is no hope for either the old or the young. Do not think that I have ambitions to return to that environment. When we talk about opposition, I don't mean those batakçi but people who need an opposition but don't have it. When an opposition is built in these conditions, I find it difficult to say. If this is archived, the need itself would arise from below", he said. Asked how many chances the opposition has in these local elections, he said that they can win some municipalities, but nothing more. He also added that in the main municipalities, the victory of the opposition seems unimaginable. "It is beyond any imagination where Albania functions in monism. If you win a municipality here, one there, what is it worth? If a political party loses large urban centers it has lost in the political sense of the word. The local elections are indicative, but what determines it are the political elections and they are not far away. Two years are too little for this situation, which is the opposition", underlined Topi.
