Surprising statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs: Skanderbeg is a national hero of Greece as well
Written by SOT.COM.AL 30 Nëntor 2022
Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias will meet his Albanian counterpart Olta Xhaçka next Friday in Athens, where the unresolved issues between the two countries will be discussed.
Dendias has expressed before this meeting and before his visit to Tirana within the framework of the EU summit, that Greece is interested in solving unresolved issues based on international law.
He said that the two countries have a traditional connection, while he said that Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu is also a national hero of Greece.
"The Greek and Albanian people are linked by traditional bonds of friendship. Greece and Albania share much more than their common borders. They share a long history of interactions and exchanges. Skanderbeg is a national hero in both our countries.
Both countries suffered from fascism during World War II. They are also connected, thanks to the presence of the Greek ethnic minority in Albania, as well as the large number of Albanians living and working in Greece", stated Dendias in his greeting message for the 110th anniversary of Albania's Independence.
