Journalist Gëzim Saliu said that Alibeaj is trying to negotiate with Berisha's group for the elections in order to have him as an alibi for the defeat.

Invited to Euronews Albania, journalist Saliu said that Enkelejd Alibeaj, as the commanding chairman of the Democratic Party, is afraid of entering the elections with his candidates, while if he enters with Berisha's candidates, he will have a good alibi to legitimize the defeat.

"According to me, everything came late from Mr. Alibeaj's grouping. Negotiations and requests for negotiations came only after Mr. Alibeaj received the stamp. Before that he was very antagonistic. There were no requests for negotiations when the primary candidates came out. Now these requests came and according to me, these requests come because Mr. Alibeaj is afraid to enter the battlefield with the candidates he has chosen himself because he knows very well that a second or third party can emerge and no municipality can win.

Thus sharing the responsibility with Mr. Berisha, Mr. Alibeaj would have an unprecedented alibi at the end of the elections that he would say we joined with Mr. Berisha, this is what happened when you asked us to join with non-women and we failed to win the required municipalities.

In my opinion, as Alibeaj's grouping is and with the way it is selecting candidates, I see the impact it can have on the election as very small, but it is a decision that affects the opposition as a whole", journalist Gëzim Saliu told Euronews Albania.
