Prime Minister Edi Rama has recently warned in a television interview of his sudden withdrawal from politics. His departure will be very close, as the head of the government said that the campaign for the May 14 elections was not his preparation for a fourth term. If we look at the political panorama, Erion Veliaj has spread his "tentacles" in the Socialist Party since he took the post of mayor and everyone sees him as the successor of Edi Rama. Recently, the name of Belinda Balluk has also appeared on the scene. It is Prime Minister Rama himself, who is promoting the figure of Balluk every day, empowering him even more on the political scene as well as in the dome of the SP. The head of government in July 2022 made an unexpected move by appointing Belinda Balluku as the number 2 figure in the government. Regarding the strong developments that may involve the Socialist Party, the "SOT" newspaper conducted a survey on the online page with the question of who Albanians think is the most worthy person to be the new head of the SP, Erion Veliaj or Belinda Balluku . At the end of the poll, the mayor of Tirana was announced in the poll carried out by Gazeta "SOT" as the most preferred candidate to be the successor of Edi Rama at the head of the Socialist Party, leaving Balluk far behind. Out of about 5,000 voters, Veliaj received 72% of the votes, while Balluku only received 28%. So even in the eyes of the citizens, Erion Veliaj already appears as Rama's successor at the head of the Socialist Party. The former head of the G99 who was catapulted to the highest forums of the SP, was then appointed a minister in the first government of Rama and was then elected the mayor of the largest municipality in the country. He is clearly following a well-known trajectory of his political career, where both Rama and Basha have walked before him. Despite the fact that Veliaj hides his ambition to replace Edi Rama through an emblematic bow to the socialist leader, he is also strongly supported by internationals. Some time ago he was in the USA on a long and successful visit meeting the highest officials in Washington. Immediately after returning to Albania, Rama re-candidated him for mayor of Tirana. The strongest signal that Rama will pass the baton is the re-candidacy in the Municipality of Tirana. The logic within the Socialist Party has proven that the prime minister of the city (the title obtained by the mayor of the largest municipality in terms of number of inhabitants and budget) lays a strong foundation for the prime minister of Albania.
