Pressure on journalists and the elections, OSCE organizes a joint conference with the CEC, Celibashi appeals to the Electoral Reform Commission for media reporting

The OSCE representation in Albania, together with other international organizations that have established their headquarters in our country, gave the message that the media should not be pressured and blackmailed while reporting on the electoral campaign and the progress of the local elections on May 14. In a joint conference, the head of the OSCE delegation in Albania, Guido De Sanctis, guaranteed the support of the body that represents the media in our country. He emphasized the complaints of journalists who often face many pressures during the exercise of their profession. "Our observers of the missions led by ODIHR have emphasized in every pair of elections the importance of editorial independence in the media and the need to support them in creating conditions to avoid self-censorship, because journalists often talk about the many pressures they face in their work while reporting. The OSCE supports the media in fulfilling the standards of professional ethics, transparency to accurately inform about the progress of the campaigns", said the OSCE Ambassador De Sanctis in his speech. The Chairman of the Central Election Commission, Ilirjan Celibashi, expressed optimism that the Electoral Reform Commission will improve the legal framework in terms of media reporting on ongoing election campaigns. "Social networks and online media have received a great development in this field as well, but they still do not have the appropriate legal regulations. We hope that this will be resolved in the Electoral Reform. Nothing prevents the Assembly and the parties from establishing rules in this area of ??great public interest".
