Journalist Mentor Kikia has spoken on the "Open" show about the arrest of former senior FBI official Charles McGonigal and the mention of Prime Minister Edi Rama in the indictment.
Kikia said that even if McGonigal is found guilty by American justice, Albania is still not implicated, adding that he is skeptical of a possible investigation by SPAK.
"To make a media race of McGaonigal and January 21st, the effort to attract public attention is huge. However, I think that even if McGonigal is found guilty in the US, even though he lacks charges for the affair here, the charges are related to abuse of office and federal crime, which does not implicate Albania. The Albanian side has two parts, economic lobbying, he did not declare in New York where he went and Albania did not declare who he met. It remains to be clarified what he lobbied for in the prime minister's office. The fact that there was no official visit is because none of the American administration was there. If we were talking about the issue of Russia, it would not be Agroni or Ducka.
The political dimension, in exchange for these licenses, is also a mystery. Was he showered with money and then asked to open a case for DP? The money has been given. There is no evidence that this money came out and went there. It may be a story that stays there. Where is the criminal offense here for Rama? I see big problems that deserve a political punishment. It depends on how SPAK will be predisposed to what this man from the USA wanted. Was he unemployed who came to Tirana and met Gjiknuri? Will he have the will to ask the master of the house? I'm very skeptical, I think such stories hardly come out on top in legal terms. Today, Rama is in the most difficult moment, as he knows very well what he has done, as well as the Americans. That's why he's choosing to stay silent and pretend he didn't exist. I don't think the Americans will easily forgive this event. On the other hand, I think that this is not the moment when they can attack Rama, and if so, it is up to him to raise the white flag against Berisha. I think that Rama will be supported, even though with clenched teeth", said Kikia.
