Prime Minister Edi Rama received the President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Prime Minister's Office. In the conversation between them, the head of the Albanian government appreciated the fact that Steimeier's experience as foreign minister and diplomat has recently helped him in the role of leader to facilitate the European Union expansion process. Although he is among the ardent initiators of the "Open Balkans", Rama praised the Berlin Process in talks with Steinmeier. "We think it is very good to have a foreign minister as President in Germany, because it is very useful, knowing the terrain, knowing the people, knowing the dynamics on the ground for all countries, especially in this region, where as you know, we also have the ongoing Berlin Process, which in some way has been reorganized, renewed, where, thanks to this process, many good things have happened for the region", said Prime Minister Rama during the meeting. On the other hand, the German president congratulated Rama and his government for opening negotiations for the integration of our country into the EU. Also, Steinmeier praised the progress of our country in the implementation of justice reform and the fight against corruption. "I don't remember how many times we sat down and discussed Albania's journey towards Europe, but really congratulations that you have reached an important cornerstone for the start of negotiations for membership and this is something, I think, for which you have worked and supported from many of your members of parliament and most of the political elite here in Albania and I believe this will encourage the taking of further steps that are necessary in the journey towards Europe.
