USA and SPAK threatening Albanian politics for the "black days" that are coming, Altin Dumani and the prosecutors show the high official of DASH the corruption files that have filled the offices of the Special Prosecutor's Office, the Americans want the "heads" of the untouchables

USA and SPAK threatening Albanian politics for the "black days" that

The United States of America yesterday gave a very strong signal to corrupt high officials, warning them that "dark days" await them. The USA used this time a method to give a threatening message that many corrupt officials who see it will be "sleepless" and will wait for their turn. The American Embassy itself published yesterday the images of what was happening inside SPAK during the meeting of the Coordinator for Global Anti-Corruption Richard Nephew, who decided to personally go inside the building of the Special Prosecution. They showed photos of corruption files spread on the floor, in cupboards, drawers and desks. The DASH official did not hide his surprise. In addition to Altin Duman, Nephew also met with Arben Kraja, the former head of SPAK, who has in his hand the file on the privatization of the former "Partizani" complex, for which former Prime Minister Sali Berisha and his son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi, are being investigated for the accusation of corruption. Meanwhile, Altin Dumani has in hand the file against Ilir Meta regarding the "CEZ-DIA" affair. The expectations and the coded message with the files warn that in the coming days, weeks and months SPAK is expected to take concrete actions against some politicians, ministers and former ministers who have abused public funds. The photos were accompanied by strong warnings from the Americans. The US will continue to support SPAK until the untouchable rulers who have escaped them all these years are punished by justice.

Details from the DASH official's visit

To begin with, Nephew held a meeting with civil society and journalists where he made it clear that the time of untouchables is over. "Global Anti-Corruption Coordinator Richard Nephew met today with representatives of civil society and the Albanian media to hear their views on the fight against corruption and the advancement of transparency in government. The United States is committed to ending impunity on a global scale, including by supporting organizations that play an important oversight role," the embassy said.

Meeting at SPAK

In a reaction of the US embassy in Tirana, it is emphasized that Nephew met yesterday with SPAK prosecutors and representatives of ILDKPKI or the Public Procurement Agency. In the reaction, it is said that the focus of the meetings was the fight against corruption, ensuring the support of the USA to the Albanian institutions in this direction. "Global Anti-Corruption Coordinator Richard Nephew saw the Albanian judicial institutions in action today during meetings with the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, SPAK prosecutors, as well as representatives of the Anti-Corruption Ministry, the High Inspectorate of Declaration and Control of Assets and Conflict of Interest (ILDKPKI) and the Public Procurement Agency. Nephew and Albanian officials discussed ongoing efforts to strengthen the independence of the judiciary and the fight against corruption. The United States will continue to support the justice institutions that are strengthening Albania's democracy as it progresses on its path to the EU," the announcement states.

Strong message

We remind you that this visit comes at a time when SPAK is being attacked by former Prime Minister Sali Berisha in a corruption investigation and declared non grata by the USA and the United Kingdom, but also by his ally Ilir Meta, the former president of Albania. Even yesterday at the round table with donors organized by the Ministry of the Interior, the deputy head of the US Embassy's acting mission, Kathryn Hammand, said that the US is investing in strengthening the rule of law in Albania, but added that this is a task that cannot be done alone and requires actions and efforts from all institutions and actors. "Corrupt officials are being brought to justice, members of organized crime are going to prison and losing their assets. This is a very powerful process that is moving forward. The USA will continue to strongly support Albania and its efforts, which are essential for membership in the European Union, which is what the Albanian people want," underlined Mrs. Hammand.
