Written by SOT.COM.AL 3 Dhjetor 2023
The EU mediator for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, has shown the meetings held in recent days, one of which was with the Special Envoy of Germany for the Western Balkans, Manuel Sarrazin, to whom he said he offered a update on the state of the dialog.
Lajçak has shown that he also held a meeting with Chancellor's Advisor Sholz, who is involved in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
I ended this week in Slovakia, where I spoke at the annual GLOBSEC Chateau Béla forum about the current dynamics in EU-Western Balkans relations and the new momentum for enlargement. Earlier this week, I traveled to Bucharest, where I attended a European Council on External Relations event focused on the future of EU enlargement. The talks also discussed the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, which is crucial for the European paths of both. On the sidelines of the event, I had a useful exchange on the current state of affairs in the Dialogue as well as regional dynamics with Romania's Foreign Minister Lumini?a Odobescu. I am very grateful for Romania's support for my work and its active engagement in the Western Balkans.
During the last two weeks I also participated in two other conferences - one in Tangier and another in Thessaloniki. In Morocco, I addressed the audience on the topics "Fragmentation, Polarization and Multilateralism: Navigating Peace in a Fractured World" as well as "Nuclear Order, Deterrence Theory and Atomic War: Confronting Global Threats and (Re)learning the Language of War" Cold" at #MEDAYS2023. Emphasizing the urgency of rethinking our approach to global challenges, I called for a holistic approach to sustainable peace, including increased investment in preventive diplomacy. In Greece, I joined the annual Thessaloniki Summit organized by the Delphi Forum. Engaging in a lively discussion, we explored the European future of the Western Balkans in the current complex geopolitical landscape.
Upon returning to Brussels, I held productive meetings with government representatives with the Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorcevic and the Minister of the Interior Danilo Sharanovic. Our discussions focused on Montenegro's commitment to integration, emphasizing the need to stay on course with EU reforms.
I also met with the Foreign Minister, Elina Valtonen, to talk about the Dialogue and the renewed push to make the Western Balkans perspective a reality.
Welcoming Germany's Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Manuel Sarrazin, in Brussels, we discussed the latest developments in the region and I provided an update on the state of the Dialogue.
Together with the head of the EU Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo, General Barbano, I addressed the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament about the latest developments in the north of Kosovo and the progress made in the EU-facilitated dialogue. .
In midweek, I took a short trip to Berlin, where I met with Jens Ploetner, Foreign Affairs Adviser to German Chancellor Scholz, as well as representatives of the German Foreign Ministry.
Amidst my busy schedule in Brussels, I was delighted to accept the invitation of the Slovak Permanent Delegation to NATO to be a guest speaker on their podcast, DajNATO!. We delved into security developments in the Balkans and my professional journey. Our conversation took on a lighter tone mixed with humor – a refreshing departure from the usual formality of my engagements.
