Citizens protest against the Government of Serbia

In the sixth "Serbia against violence" protest, on Friday, tens of thousands of citizens in Belgrade started a march towards the Government of Serbia, around which a ring will be formed.

At the head of the column are the students with the banner "Students against violence".

The participants in the protest chanted "Students are not silent", "Vucic leave", "Resign".

Among the messages that the protesters carry on their banners are: "Children's lives have no price", "Enough, you understand", "Violence survives in silence".

The organizers of the protest invited citizens to prepare messages for the Ministry of Education, but also for the entire Government.

The protests are taking place at the invitation of a part of the opposition, due to dissatisfaction with the reaction of the Government of Serbia to the crimes of the mass shooting, at the beginning of May, where 18 people lost their lives.

From the protest, it was announced that they will start new actions if their demands are not met by the end of next week.

The main demand of the protest is to stop inciting violence in public spaces.

Other demands from the protests are the dismissal of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Bratislav Gashiq, and the director of the Security Information Agency, Aleksandar Vulin.

Protesters are also demanding the dismissal of the Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, the closure of tabloids that propagate violence and violate the code, and the confiscation of national frequencies from Pink and Happy TV.

The Minister of Education, Branko Ruzhiq, resigned after the tragedy at the "Vladislav Ribnikar" elementary school in Belgrade.

In this school, on May 3, a 13-year-old student shot and killed eight students and a security guard. An injured girl later died and she is the tenth victim.

A day later, on May 4, in the villages of Malo Orashje and Dubona near Belgrade, a 21-year-old attacker killed eight and injured 14 people.

After that, the authorities increased the police presence in the schools and called on the citizens to surrender their weapons to the police.

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Bërnabiq, on June 7, declared that the demands of the protest were political.

Then she offered her resignation, assessing that extraordinary parliamentary elections are a solution to the crisis.

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vu?i?, once again invited the opposition to talk, saying that if they do not respond to the call, elections will follow.

On June 7, during an address to the public with the prime minister, Vucic said that it is quite clear that there will be extraordinary parliamentary elections and that it is only a matter of the month when they will be held.

Early elections are not on the list of demands of the protesters.

The representatives of the opposition declared that they do not want elections under the old election conditions./REL
