The EP rapporteur warns Kosovo: The government is risking a lot with the

The rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament, Viola von Cramon, expressed concern about the situation in the north of Kosovo during a media conference in Pristina. She said that the Government of Kosovo "seems to be risking a lot with these maneuvers in the north".

"Obviously, the elected presidents were elected legally. But, this does not mean that they have the legitimacy to enter these facilities and have access by force. "No one can lead with one or two percent of the vote," Von Cramon said.

She called on the Government of Kosovo to ask itself "if this is good governance", as she added that work should be done on building trust with the Serbian community in the north of Kosovo and that they should not be portrayed as "criminals" and "puppets of Belgrade".

The declarations of the European official come on the day when the local Serbs in Zveçan, Leposavic and Zubin Potok are protesting to oppose the entry of the new Albanian mayors into the municipal buildings.

On May 26, tensions rose in the Serb-majority north, as the new mayors, assisted by the police, entered municipal buildings.

The police clashed with the protesters and as a result five policemen were injured and several police cars were burnt.

The international community has expressed concern with the actions of the Government of Kosovo, asking it not to take "unilateral and destabilizing steps".

Lista Serbe, the largest party of Serbs in Kosovo, has said that the Serbian protesters will withdraw when the new leaders and special units of the Kosovo Police withdraw from the north.

The new Albanian mayors were elected on May 23, after the previous municipal mayors from the Serbian List resigned in November of last year.

This party abandoned all the institutions of Kosovo, due to the decision of the Government in Pristina to carry out the process of re-registration of cars with illegal Serbian license plates.

The elections were boycotted by the majority Serbian population in that area, which now does not accept the results, namely the new mayors./REL
