Children 'fill' the pediatrics of Elbasan, 90 cases a day, over 10% with Covid-19

Kindergartens and schools have opened their doors for children and students for more than 10 days, but with the beginning of the teaching process, viruses have returned. Staying in shared premises affects the rapid spread to each other. This fact is confirmed by the head of pediatrics in Elbasan, who emphasizes that in 24 hours there are nearly 90 children who receive treatment in the hospital.

"The presentation varies from 80-90 per day, but the diagnosis has already changed. Now children come to us with rhinitis, pharyngitis, whooping cough with autitis, which are from the kindergarten season. A child who comes with a cough and a runny nose says that there are children with such symptoms in kindergartens or at school", said Irena Palloshi, head of pediatrics Elbasan

In addition to seasonal viruses, another diagnosis often encountered during check-ups of children who go to the hospital is infection with Covid-19. Some of them have been hospitalized, as they present more serious symptoms.

"In the infectious ward, we also have children with covid, currently we have 12 hospitalized children. Their condition appears to be good, we do not have any serious cases transferred to Tirana. They are children with fever and vomiting who require hospital treatment for 2 to 3 days and then their condition improves", said Irena Palloshi, head of Elbasan pediatrics.

In this situation, the pediatrician shares advice for parents on how to act when their children show flu symptoms.  

"When the child has a fever and signs of a virus, the parent will do well not to come to kindergarten or school so that they are not a source of infection. But at the same time, parents should be careful even if they have a child in kindergarten or school and have a baby at home, be careful that this infection does not pass to other children", said Irena Palloshi, head of pediatrics Elbasan.

Also, according to doctors, special attention should be paid to the personal hygiene of children and the hygiene of the products they consume every day.
