Bile is the fluid produced by the liver. It is rich in fatty matter - especially cholesterol - which the liver creates from the blood.

The role of bile is to break down and distribute indigestible fatty substances and vitamins in the digestive system - thus enabling better absorption of fatty substances from the intestines.

Gallstones are the most common disease of the bile ducts and represent a relatively frequent disorder in the population, the frequency varies depending on race, place of residence and diet. Almost 10% of the general population have gallstones, while in women it appears twice as often.

Gallstones are divided into cholesterol (80%) and pigmented (20%).

Cholesterol stones can be pure, in which case it is usually a larger, yellowish-white stone, while mixed stones are known as several crushed stones.

Pigment stones are usually small in size, black in color. Such stones are usually found in chronic diseases such as alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver, biliary tract infection or chronic hemolysis.

Diet plays a key role in the formation of gallstones, especially if it is high in fat and bad carbohydrates. Obesity is also considered a risk factor for gallstones. Too much fat in the body leads to an increase in cholesterol and its secretion in the bile, which is why stones are formed. This is why you need to correct your diet to prevent and alleviate diseases. Therefore, if you have gallstones, do not eat fatty foods.

Light food with low fat content, which is easily digested, is the ideal choice. You should eat moderately and several times during the day, and after a meal it is recommended to lie down for half an hour.

Experts recommend all kinds of fruits, and from vegetables: broccoli, carrots and spinach. Eliminate cabbage, kale, cucumber, potatoes and peppers from the menu. Also, cut out pork and lard, processed meat. Instead of these foods, eat beef, turkey, chicken and all types of fish except sardines. Also avoid eggs, margarine, nuts, spices such as pepper, cinnamon and ground pepper. During this diet, it is recommended to drink as much tea as possible, and cocoa and low-fat milk are also allowed.

Eliminate alcoholic beverages, sweets, caffeine and milk chocolate from the menu. It is very important not to eat scrambled and fried foods, because they further irritate the bile and cause discomfort. When preparing the meal, use olive oil instead of sunflower oil, which can significantly reduce the level of harmful cholesterol in the blood. It is not enough just to adjust the diet, but also to increase physical activity. Light exercises and daily walks will improve your health and reduce body mass.
