The risk of skin cancer in young people, experts show what are the methods to prevent it

Written by SOT.COM.AL 2 Shkurt 2023

Skin cancer is on the rise among young adults aged 25 to 30 and even teenagers aged 15 to 20. Many cases of a common skin cancer called melanoma have been reported in these age groups. UV (ultraviolet) damage from the sun is one of the main causes of melanoma.
Melanoma can develop in places where there are no dark spots or lumps. Melanoma develops when melanocytes stop functioning normally. They begin to grow out of control as a result of a genetic change (mutation), sticking together to form tumors and damaging surrounding tissue.
Therefore, dermatologists urge people of all ages to protect their skin and practice sun protection.
The increase in skin cancer in young people can be the result of various factors such as:
- Exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun and other sources.
-Participating in outdoor sports played directly under the sun.
-Low sun protection habits such as not applying sunscreen and not wearing hats.
-Delayed visits to the dermatologist for skin checks.
The incidence of skin cancer varies by gender, with men being at higher risk. Below are the reasons :
Sun exposure: Men tend to have higher rates of sun exposure, especially during outdoor activities, and have a higher tendency to sunburn.
Skin type: Men tend to have thicker and oilier skin than women, which can make them more susceptible to sun damage.
Check your skin regularly: Examine your skin regularly and report any suspicious changes or spots to your doctor.
Eat a healthy diet: Eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains can help reduce the risk of skin cancer.
