"Skin tumors with cholesterol" / The part of the body where it appears most often, the well-known doctor eliminates dilemmas and reveals the symptom of extremely high cholesterol that is rarely observed

Dr. Laura Purdy offered advice on what important symptoms of high cholesterol to look out for. According to her, "cholesterol is a type of fat molecule that circulates in the bloodstream".
It usually comes from the breakdown of fat molecules in the digestive process, but some people may have genetic or other conditions that cause their bodies to keep larger than average amounts of cholesterol inside their blood vessels.
She further explained that there are several different types of cholesterol, and they are often referred to in terms of good cholesterol or bad cholesterol.
"Good cholesterol is another term for HDL, which means high-density lipoprotein. This particular type of cholesterol helps remove other harmful types of cholesterol from the body. "LDL stands for low-density lipoprotein, a type of bad cholesterol that must be controlled to prevent the risk of cardiovascular disease," explains the doctor.
This type of cholesterol can contribute to the formation of plaque in the arteries within our body, which can cause heart attacks and strokes. That's why it's important to understand the differences between the two types of cholesterol, especially when it comes to long-term health.
Skin tumors with cholesterol
"Some people who have high cholesterol will develop small cholesterol tumors that may be visible in certain areas of the body," says Dr. Purdy.
She adds that they "look like small, waxy, yellow bumps and are very often seen under the eyes, but not all over the body. Xanthomas are a physical manifestation of high cholesterol and people who have these types of small skin tumors should have a blood test."
Dr. Purdy says that "obesity is very stressful on the body and causes several medical conditions including high cholesterol."
"There is a much higher percentage of elevated cholesterol in people who are overweight or obese than in people who are not. This is also the case with children and teenagers, not only with adults. For this reason, it is recommended that adults, adolescents and children who are overweight or have a very high BMI have a blood test as part of a systematic annual examination to determine their cholesterol level," she adds.
